Getting around

  • Print

By train

Baarn has a railway station, just a 20 minute walk from the campsite. Please note that not all trains stop in Baarn.

The Netherlands has an extensive railway network and the train is generally a very convenient way to get around. Tickets can be bought at ticket machines that can be found at all railway stations.

It is not possible to buy tickets on the train, so be sure that you have a ticket before you enter the train. The bigger stations have platforms that can only be accessed through gates for which you need a valid ticket.

For planning your train travels and information about tickets, see the website of the Nederlandse Spoorwegen

By bus, metro or tram

It is usually easy to get around by bus. Unfortunately Buitenzorg doesn’t have any good bus connections. Tickets can be bought at ticket machines at railway stations, tobacco shops or in the bus or tram (but his is more expensive, only cards are accepted) Tickets are either a single-use chipcard or an anonymous OV-chipkaart. The anonymous OV-chipkaart is convenient if you travel multiple days with different kinds of transportation. The card cost €7,50 (without travel credit) and needs to be charged with sufficient travel credit. Please click here for more information about tickets in The Netherlands.

Please note that the Scout Shop at Buitenzorg does not sell any tickets!

There isn’t a metro or tram in Baarn, these types of transportation are only found in bigger cities.

Check the website OV9292

Here you can find an online travel planner for all means of transportation.

By bicycle

Biking is an enjoyable experience and is an easy way to get around in The Netherlands. There are many bike paths. Helmets are not compulsory, but are recommended for people who are not used to cycling. Throughout the country there are many sign posted cycling routes available which are indicated by numbers.
