National Military Museum, Soesterberg (12km)

The National Military Museum is situated at the former air base at Soesterberg. It combines the collections of the former Military Aviation Museum in Soesterberg and Army Museum in Delft. There are numerous pieces on display, including tanks, planes, armoured vehicles and helicopters.

Anne Frank House, Amsterdam (40 km)

See the annex of the house where Anne Frank- a Jewish girl- and her family found a hiding place for the Nazi’s during World War II. After their hiding place was betrayed she and her family members were deported and killed in different concentration camps. After her death her diary was published and became world famous. Nowadays the building at the Prinsengracht in Amsterdam houses an impressive exhibition about her story, the prosecution of Jews during WWII and about the dangers of racism in general.

We recommend to book the tickets well in advance online. Prices range between €4,50 and €9 per person. Children under age of 9 have free entrance.

 

Airborne Museum, Oosterbeek (65 km)

For those interested in the history of WWII in The Netherlands, and want to learn more about the Battle of Arnhem, The Airborne Museum in Oosterbeek is a must-see. It is housed in Villa Hartenstein, the former headquarters of the British Troops during the Battle of Arnhem. It now exhibits many photo’s, interviews, armour, weapons, etc from the Battle. It does not only shows the ‘allied perspective’ but also tells about the ‘enemies perspective’ and shows that freedom can never be taken for granted.
