In the coming year, a new building will be built at Buitenzorg. Want to know more? Then read on.
In recent years, the Coach House, The Gnome House and the Owl's Nest have been refurbished. Unfortunately, the renovation of the Blue Birdhouse was no longer profitable. After more than 57 years of use as a group accommodation with adapted facilities for the disabled, the building no longer meets the requirements to be able to rent it out for overnight stays.
However, there is good news to report: in 2024 a new Blue Bird House will be built, suitable for all young people from scouting and non-scouting groups. The new building will provide space for 2 groups of up to 36 and 44 people and is also suitable for giving courses and other meetings for larger groups.
Most and Tomdavid architects have made a sketch design based on the package of wishes and requirements drawn up by the construction team of Scoutcentrum Buitenzorg.
The design fits in with the environment and is in line with the monumental character of the former Buitenzorg estate. It will be finished on the outside with wooden panels and glass walls so that the building fits well into the forest. It consists of two wings, each consisting of sleeping quarters and a large 'living room' that is also suitable for indoor activities. The two accommodations can also be combined into 1 larger accommodation. It goes without saying that the ecological footprint and an energy-efficient design have been taken into account. Last year, the national council of Scouting Netherlands gave the green light for the construction plans and we start construction in 2024.
